How to Use This Inventory
Add Your Supplies
Type in what you have. Include the name, how many, and what counts as "low" for you. If you paint a lot, maybe 2 tubes of white is low. If you only paint once a month, 5 might be fine.
Watch the Alerts
Items at or below your threshold show up with a red badge. The dashboard counter at the top updates in real time. Check it before you start a new project.
Plan Before You Start
Use the project estimator to guess how much you'll need. Compare that against what you have. If you're short, add it to your shopping list before you're halfway through.
Update After Each Project
When you finish something, subtract what you used. This keeps your numbers honest. Over time, you'll see patterns in what you use most.
Common Mistakes Hobbyists Make
- Not counting partial supplies. That tube of paint that's almost empty still counts as one in your head. Track it honestly.
- Forgetting shelf life. Some paints dry out. Some glues stop sticking after a year. Add a note with the date you opened it.
- Buying the same color twice. Write the exact color name and brand in the notes field. "Blue" is not helpful when you have seven blues.
- Ignoring small items. A single needle, one hook, or a specific drill bit can stop a whole project. Track the small stuff too.
Storage Tips That Actually Help
- Use clear bins so you can see what's inside without opening everything.
- Label the outside with the category name. It makes finding things faster.
- Keep frequently used items at eye level. Seasonal or rare supplies can go higher or lower.
- Group by project type, not just material. If you knit and paint, keep those supplies in separate areas.
About the Usage Estimates
The project estimator uses average consumption rates. A small painting might use 3-5 colors with about a tablespoon each. A scarf might take 200-300 yards of yarn depending on width and stitch. These are starting points. Your actual use depends on your style, how thick you apply paint, how tight you knit, and dozens of other factors. Adjust the numbers as you learn your own patterns.
Your Data Stays With You
Everything is stored in your browser. Nothing gets sent to a server. This means your inventory is private, but it also means if you clear your browser data or switch devices, your list won't be there. Use the export button to save a copy as a text file. Print a version to keep in your craft room.
